Behind the screens
Well-kept was established out of necessity by our founder and CEO, Neeley Kolsch Britt. Neeley is a Florida native, who studied international business and dabbled in interior design. Neeley shares a common attachment that many of us can relate to: Technology. With a career in disaster recovery, which required being on call twenty-four hours a day, her cell phone and computer rarely left her side. Her life involved a balance of high heels and steel toe boots.
At times she could be found attending a networking lunch and other days in the field after a disaster struck a community. Continually disgusted with smudges on her laptop screen and facial blemishes caused by a dirty phone, Neeley began her search for a sensible product to remove the grime. She shopped, as she did for most of her health and beauty aids, looking for a product of quality and utility, contained in a stylish package. After some research, she realized there was a void in the market for a personal electronic device cleaner that embodied the charm she had in mind. Family members and friends were surveyed to see if they had that same need. Coincidentally, they did. In fact, they began to demand such wipes, once the clever concept was pitched.
In January 2011, well-kept was founded in Atlanta, Georgia. This was after a few years of buying hundreds of wipes, hunting for manufacturers, and even attending wipe conferences. Who knew there were such events? In November 2011, the company launched its first collection of Screen Cleansing Towelettes – which can be used on cell phones and a variety of personal electronics and lenses. The towelettes can be found in boutiques across the United States and conveniently online.
Much thought was put into creating a compact size, a reliable closure, and selecting a sustainable package that was fetching enough to cause some envy.
In 2012, Spanx founder Sara Blakely selected Neeley as a winner of the Spanx Leg Up Promotion, with Sarah deeming well-kept “the must-have stocking stuffer”!
